As a bisexual person certain issues are relevant to me, and these draw me into the queer community as such. It seems to me that the following would be ideal, but probably hard to achieve:
- Freedom to do with another person sexually what you like, provided all parties are consenting and of age;
- Consistent ages of consent for people, regardless of gender or sexuality; Freedom from discrimination, to be who you are;
- Legal recognition of emotional partnerships, not only for "same-sex" couples, but also for multi-partner situations.
The tried and almost tested way of achieving these ends has been pushing for legislation through parliament. This is hard work, since politicians are basically a conservative lot. The best thing I've found, is to live around restrictions as much as you can, and compromise as little as possible.
This is easier said than done.
