The contents of this section of Queer Stuff are a mirror of a booklet I prepared and expected to be distributed at Queer Collaborations 2002, which took place in Canberra this year.Unfortunately both the flyers and the booklets were left in the boot of a car of someone who decided to leave the Conference early in order to do some sightseeing on the way home - thus taking the flyers and booklets with them!

That being the case, this is the only way you stand a chance of reading it. I never thought that it would take me almost a year to produce the booklet (OK, so this is the web version) you’re reading now. After QC 2001 took place, I was confused, upset and angry. Back then my plan was to print something as soon as possible.

But, back then I was still completing my Bachelor of Visual Arts at Newcastle University. I only needed one more ten point subject to finish. I’d been forced to go part-time after my physical collapse back in 1999, and had taken a year’s break in 2000 in order to prepare and recover from sex reassignment surgery. I didn’t want to delay completion any longer.

The final unit, “directed studies”, involved the production of Hypergraphia #4. This was a labour intensive effort involving extensive visual collage using computers. That was completed mid-November and with it, the degree.

I was planning to do my “honours” this year but, on a disability support allowance, I just couldn’t afford it. Otherwise, I would have attended QC 2002. Such is life. But this was also why QC 2001 was so important to me at the time, and why I was (and still am) angry over the events of that conference.

Maybe, after reading this booklet, you will be too.
