I went down to Sydney and had a really great time. I went to a fetish/black party at a friend's on the 13th -- met heaps of interesting folk. Saturday and Sunday I went to a comix fest in Newtown, selling and trading my comic "Hypergraphia". Met a lot of other comic makers there, and had a good time drawing more of my next issue, and a one-shot one page strip about missing Goth nightclubs.
I also bought a
figurine of the comic character DAWN,
which I'm going to take to Thailand with me to represent the
Goddess. If you're not familiar with the strip, she is a
Goddess of personal rebirth and growth, so I think it's highly
appropriate.
And I went to the Cure concert Sunday night. Never seen them live before, and it was a good show. Never seen so many folk dressed in black in one place before (including myself). I bought a "Dream Tour" T-Shirt for $35.
I had a good time, and stayed with friends I like. Didn't get back until late Monday night.
Tuesday Robyn arrived from Taree. She's coming with me to
Phuket (she went to the same surgeon last year) and is a really
nice person. Wednesday I was running around buying food for the
party. I had another friend, Alison, cook it for me.
The
party was all I could have wanted and more. I had about a dozen
friends turn up, including ones from Sydney. A number that
couldn't come phoned, and some I saw next day. One friend
brought a birthday cake in the shape of a giant cock and balls. I
cut the cake by bringing down a meat cleaver at the base!
I also gave away Sparky -- the dog I saved from being put down. One of the friends at the party (and her daughter) fell in love with him and when I asked if she wanted him she said YES! I'll miss the little bugger, but I knew that I wasn't going to keep him for long (in fact I told Jo just after I got him, that I had a felling that I'd give Sparks to a friend).
It was a good night, the best birthday party I've EVER had. A friend of mine gave me a Tarot reading as a birthday pressie -- a three card spread consisting of: Inverted Ace Wands (Past); Death (Present) and Ace of Cups (Future). He interpreted this as leaving the era of inverted male energy, and changing to a full bloom with female energy (you get the idea).
Yesterday Robyn and I visited some of the friends that couldn't make the party. And had been nursing Lydia who had a broken arm, and it was good to see her before I go. We also visited Daryl and Maz. Marilyn was my closest friend when I first came to Newcastle. Although we drifted apart physically I still care for her. She's going into hospital the same time I am, but to have two growths removed from her colon.
So many changes, so little time. Today I'm getting the tires on the car changed (they're threadbare) before Jo drives us down to the airport tomorrow. I leave at 12:45pm tomorrow at Mascot Airport for Phuket. It'll be a long flight, but a good one.
I am in a really positive space right now -- full of beans and smiles and happiness.
